Metamorphosis Monday

one-on-sidebar1

This week I thought I would share a project we worked on four years ago.  I thankfully took photos before during and after although at the time I didn’t even know anyone with a Blog .

Before:

Cute Boy built this picket fence and arbor  in this back portion of our yard.  It was a birthday gift for me.  We grew vegetables in part of the yard behind the fence but it had become kind of a jungle.

We had a pine tree removed and all the privets that had sprung up and overgrown the area.  Cute boy spent a month after work each evening , cutting and splitting the wood from the  pine.

Then we cleaned up the wood, moved the roses and made plans.

We painted the shed to match the house.

Cute Boy put in a brick walkway and built a raised bed for vegetables.  the wood structure in the background (above) is my two sided compost bin made from the redwood recycled from our old screened in porch.

I began to plant flowers and vegetables.

It continues to be an ongoing project as I discover what does well in certain spots, pull out some things and move others.  The roses on  the arbor are Cecile Brunner and the roses on the fence are Dream Weaver.  The lavender looks now like  it didn’t make it through this winter.

So that’s it.  The garden project.  This spring we will replace the back fence.  As I look at the window on Feb 1, it doesn’t resemble the  glory of those roses and iris.   The  vegetable beds are bare, the lilac has bare branches.  The Dahlias, Echinacea, Daylillies, Foxglove, and Delphinium have gone dormant, and look like dead sticks.

 But, isn’t Spring grand!

I should have taken a winter photo  for this post because the garden plants certainly go through a Metamorphosis each Spring, don’t they?

Visit the fun of Metamorphosis at Between Naps on the Porch.   I’m looking forward to being inspired by all the other participants!

I know how much work goes into one of those projects. We have been trying to do the same with our old shed. We have now transformed into a guest cottage/shack/cabana, depending on which kid uses it lol

I absolutely love it! I can’t wait for spring either.
By the way, this is exactly the type of arbor I wanted a few years ago when my FIL made me one. Mine didn’t turn out like this, but I loved it anyway.
